The Centre for Economic Policy Research (CEPR) organise and cordially invite you to attend the webinar book launch of the The Peace Formula: Voice, Work and Warranties, Not Violence by Dominic Rohner on Wednesday, 25 September , 4pm BST/ 5pm CEST.
Author Dominic Rohner (Geneva Graduate Institute and University of Lausanne, CEPR & RPN Leader) will present the book in a 40-minute session, followed by a Q&A, moderated by Hannes Mueller (IAE, CEPR) and an introduction to the new ReCIPE programme.
Drawing on rich historical anecdotes and based on cutting-edge academic evidence, this book develops the “peace formula” – a set of policies that curb armed conflict. Ranging from specific political institutions and economic policies over security provision and inter-group reconciliation processes, the efficacy of these policies has been demonstrated by a large and growing body of rigorous academic evidence. This book provides the first easily accessible synthesis of this work.
Yet, sadly, these findings have not yet been widely picked up by policy makers, and our leaders tend to perpetuate the ever-same policy mistakes over and over again. Ill-designed peace initiatives that backfire can be accounted for by the distorted incentives of many politicians, nudging them to cut shady deals with despots instead of investing in lasting peace. Thankfully, the book explains how “smart idealism” helps us to get the incentives of our leaders right. The stakes could hardly be higher.
