Clemens Fuest is President of the ifo Institute, Professor for Economics and Public Finance at the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich, Director of the Center for Economic Studies (CES) and Executive Director of CESifo GmbH. Clemens Fuest is President of the ifo Institute, Professor for Economics and Public Finance at the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich, Director of the Center for Economic Studies (CES) and Executive Director of CESifo GmbH. He is the main speaker for EconPol Europe, a network of 14 European institutions contributing independent evidence-based research to the discussion of the future design of the European Union.
Since 2003 Clemens Fuest is a member of the Academic Advisory Board of the German Federal Ministry of Finance (head of the board from 2007 to 2010). He is a Fellow of the Institute for the Study of Labour (IZA) since 2007 also a member of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts and of the German National Academy of Science and Engineering (acatech). Furthermore, Clemens Fuest is Board Member of the International Institute for Public Finance (IIPF; Vice President since 2014) and a member of the Minimum Wage Committee of the Federal Republic of Germany and of the "High Level Group on Own Resources" (Monti-Commission) of the European Union. In 2013 he received the Gustav Stolper Prize of the Verein für Socialpolitik (Social Policies Society - VfS).
His research areas are Economic and fiscal policy, international taxation, taxation, transfers and labor markets and European Integration. Before he was appointed ifo President in April 2016, Clemens Fuest was President of the Centre for European Economic Research (ZEW) in Mannheim and Professor of Economics at the University of Mannheim. From 2008 to 2013 he was Professor of Business Taxation and Research Director of the Centre for Business Taxation at the University of Oxford. He taught as a Visiting Professor at the Bocconi University in Milan in 2004. From 2001 to 2008 he was Professor for Public Economics at the University of Cologne.
