Economic frontlines: Ukraine and Russia’s war economies

Watch the livestream recording

Presentations by Yuriy Gorodnichenko, Elina Ribakova and Christoph Trebesch
Comments and open discussion led by Polina Ivanova

After more than 800 days of Russian aggression, it is clear that the war of attrition is a key element of the conflict. Important perspectives can therefore come from analyzing Russia’s economic capacity to sustain aggression against Ukraine, juxtaposed with Ukraine’s economic resilience to withstand and resist. Economic realities and proposed strategies and outlooks need to be discussed as Europe continues to debate how to support Ukraine.

Elina Ribakova will present the latest findings on the state of the Russian economy, as published in the CEPR Policy Insight 131. Yuriy Gorodnichenko will present the latest findings on the Ukrainian economy and Christoph Trebesch will present the June updates for the Ukraine Support Tracker, followed by comments from Polina Ivanova and an open discussion.
