Jan I. Haaland is Professor of International Economics at NHH Norwegian School of Economics, and CEPR Research Fellow. Haaland was Rector at NHH for two consecutive periods, from 2005 to 2013. Over the years, professor Haaland has held many positions in national and international networks. He was President of Universities Norway (UHR) in the period 2009-13, and the Norwegian member of the Council of the European University Association (EUA) in the same period. He was a member of the board of NOKUT (the Norwegian Agency for Quality Assurance in Education), between 2015 and 2022, serving as deputy chair of the board for several years. Professor Haaland received his Doctor Oecon degree from NHH in 1984 with Professor Victor D. Norman as his supervisor. His main research areas are international trade, trade policy and global and regional economic integration. He has been research fellow at the Centre for Economic Policy Research (CEPR) in London since 1992, and he was a visiting academic at the University of Oxford in 2013-14 as well as in the spring term of 2019. He has participated in numerous international research collaborations and has published in leading field journals as well as in international and national academic books.
