Jim Stock is the Harold Hitchings Burbank Professor of Political Economy in Harvard’s Department of Economics, with a dual appointment in the Harvard Kennedy School. Dr. Stock served as Chair of the Harvard Economics Department from 2006 to 2009 and has been a Professor at Harvard continuously since 1983, with the exception of a two-year appointment at UC Berkeley from 1990 to 1991. He was a member of the President’s Council of Economic Advisers from 2013-2014. His responsibilities at the CEA included macroeconomics, housing, energy, and environmental economics.His research focuses on empirical macroeconomics, monetary policy, climate change, and forecasting. Dr. Stock is a coauthor of a leading introductory econometrics textbook and has been a member of various professional boards, including the National Bureau of Economic Research Business Cycle Dating Committee, and was Co-Editor of Econometrica from 2009-2012. He received a B.S. from Yale University and an M.A. in statistics and a Ph.D. in economics from the University of California, Berkeley.
