Jonas Hjort is an Associate Professor of Economics and Gary Winnick and Martin Granoff Associate Professor of Business at Columbia Business School
He received his PhD from U.C. Berkeley, and does research on development, labor, and organizational economics. In his work, Jonas uses household, firm and administrative datasets from Africa, Latin America and Russia to evaluate potential drivers of productivity and job creation. His recent studies have focused on the role of vertical integration in firms' quality upgrading, how industrial policies interact with individual and organizational level productivity to influence output in the public sector, and Internet's role in job creation in Africa
