This conference was the Kick-Off-Event of a new research initiative on “Geopolitics and International Economics” at the Kiel Institute and brought together many of the world’s leading scholars working at the intersection of geopolitics and economics.
The conference featured 2 keynotes (by Matteo Maggiori and Nancy Qian), 11 academic papers, and 2 high-level policy panels (in China on Monday, and on Europe on Tuesday). Among others, the discussed topics included geopolitical risks, the use of sanctions, the politics of economic interdependence, the rise of China, and global technological competition.
