Mark Harrison

Mark Harrison is Emeritus Professor of Economics at the University of Warwick and a Fellow of the British Academy and of the Academy of Social Science. He is a research fellow of CEPR and of Warwick’s Centre on Competitive Advantage in the Global Economy. His research interests include the economic history of Russia and the Soviet bloc and of twentieth century warfare and security. He was one of the first western economists to work in Russian archives after the collapse of the Soviet Union. He has published in the Economic History Review, European Review of Economic History, Journal of Comparative Economics, Journal of Economic History, Journal of Economic Literature, and other journals. His latest book is Secret Leviathan: Secrecy and State Capacity Under Soviet Communism (Stanford University Press, 2023). He is currently working (with Stephen Broadberry) on an edited volume of research on Economic Warfare in Modern History to be published by Cambridge University Press in 2025.
