Monika Merz is a Professor of Economics at the University of Vienna. She was previously on the economics faculty at the University of Bonn (2001-2010). Merz received her Ph.D. in 1994 from Northwestern University and held an appointment as Assistant Professor of Economics at Rice University in Houston prior to coming to Bonn.Her research primarily focuses on macroeconomic aspects of labour markets. She currently explores the role of preference heterogeneity for spousal time allocation and in another line of research for occupational choice and the implied wealth accumulation. Her research interests lie at the intersection of macroeconomics, labor and family economics. Recent publications are in the Journal of the European Economic Association, American Economic Review and the Journal of Monetary Economics. Monika Merz has been a CEPR Research Fellow since 2010 and a Research Fellow at IZA since 2001. She has been and a member of the Austrian Academy of Science since 2012.
