Since July 2020, Reinhard Felke is Director for policy, strategy and communication at the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Economic and Financial Affairs. His responsibilities span the Commission economic forecasts, economic surveillance of the euro area and, in the context of the European Semester, implementation aspects of the new Recovery and Resilience Facility, as well as internal and external communication related to the activities of the Directorate General.
Reinhard Felke previously held positions in the Commission as Director in charge of “Economies of EU Member States” (2019-2020), Deputy Head of Cabinet of Commissioner Moscovici (2014-2019), Head of Unit (2008-2012) and Assistant to the Director General of DG ECFIN (2005-2008). From 2012 to 2014, he was seconded from the Commission to the Federal Ministry of Finance in Berlin where he held the position of Director in charge of European economic affairs.
An economist by training, Reinhard graduated from the University of Konstanz and holds a Ph.D. from the University of the Federal Armed Forces in Hamburg. Before joining the Commission in 2000, Reinhard Felke worked at the Federal Ministry of Economics in Bonn and Berlin as well as at the OECD in Paris. Born in 1965, Reinhard Felke is father of three teenagers.
