Sriya Iyer

Sriya Iyer is Professor of Economics and Social Science at the University of Cambridge and a Professorial Fellow of St Catharine’s College. She is Deputy Director of The Keynes Fund for Applied Economics. Her research is in the fields of development economics, economics of religion, health, demography and education. Her research has spanned a range of countries including India, USA, Kenya, Bangladesh, Brazil and the UK. Professor Sriya Iyer serves on the Council of the Royal Economic Society, and is a Research Fellow of the Centre for Economic Policy Research (London), the Institute of Labour Economics (Bonn), the Global Labor Organisation (GLO) and she serves on the India Advisory Board of the Pew Research Centre and on the Advisory Council of the SCORE Initiative of the Templeton Religion Trust. Additionally, she serves on the editorial boards of three journals. From 2024 she is leading the Social Consequences of Religion SCORE strand on religion and economic development. Sriya read for a BA (Hons) in Economics at the University of Delhi and then for an MA, MPhil and PhD at the University of Cambridge. In addition to papers in leading economics journals, she has published books on The Economics of Religion in India (Harvard University Press, 2018), Demography and Religion in India (Oxford University Press, 2002) and Advances in the Economics of Religion (International Economic Association & Palgrave Macmillan, 2019). In 2014, she was awarded a University of Cambridge Pilkington Prize for Teaching Excellence.
