Tim Willems is a senior research economist at the Bank of England (Monetary Analysis Directorate). Previously, he served as an economist at the IMF where he worked on a variety of countries, including Cote d'Ivoire, Tunisia, and Ukraine. Prior to that, he was a post-doctoral Research Fellow at Nuffield College, University of Oxford. He holds degrees from Tilburg University and University College London and obtained his PhD in Economics from the Tinbergen Institute at the University of Amsterdam. His research focuses on macroeconomics and political economy, and has been published in a variety of journals, including American Economic Journal: Macroeconomics, the Economic Journal, and the Quarterly Journal of Economics.
